Abstract
The microvascular surgery using operative micresope has become firmly established in clinical practice for amputated digital and limb replantation, free flap transfer, free omental transfer and many other procedures. Histological study of intimal healing after microvascular anastomosis is thought to be quite important to understand the microvascular repair and to practice the microvascular surgery clinically.

The intimal healing after microvascular repair was serially observed in femoral arteries and veins of rabbits weighing 2.5¡3.0kg.

The observation was serially performed on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th week.

The results are as follows;

1. The external diameters of femoral arteries are 0.8¡1.2mm and those of femoral veins are 0.9¡1.4mm.

2. The patency rates were 82.5% in arteries and 80% in veins respectively.

3. The complete intimal regenerations were observed at 2nd week in arteries and 3rd week in veins.

It is inferred that the prevention of thrombosis of anastomotic site by administration of anticoagulants would be needed for 2¡3 weeks after microvascular repair.
